The Andromeda Galaxy (M31)
The Andromeda galaxy is a beautiful and spectacular barred spiral galaxy located approximately 2.5 million light-years away. It is the nearest large galaxy to our own and is bright enough to be visible to the naked eye on a clear moonless night. It is also a rather large celestial object, having an angular length approximately six times that of the full moon.
