The Fiddlehead Galaxy is an unbarred spiral galaxy with a somehwat unique look in that it has only a singular spiral arm. It is located some some 106 million light-years away in the constellation Aries. Somewhat larger than the Milky Way, the Fiddlehead Galaxy is approximately 200,000 light-years in diameter. It is a faint and small object in the night sky, making it a little difficult to find and image.
This image was made with a Nikon Z7 II and a Nikon 600mm f/6.3 PF lens at f/6.3. A total of 138 30 second exposures at ISO 6400 were made for a total of 69 minutes of exposure time. Star tracking was with a Fornax LighTrack II. Images were aligned with Deep Sky Stacker followed by stacking and stretching with Python programs. Additional final processing was done with Capture One and Topaz DeNoise AI.
