Astrophotography Image of the Eastern Veil Nebuls (NGC 6992)

Eastern Veil Nebula

The eastern Veil Nebula is part of the greater Cygnus loop, a remnant of a supernova that exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. The distance to this nebula is estimated to be about 2400 light years.

This image was made with a Nikon Z7II and a Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF lens. A total of 65 30-second images were taken at ISO 3200 for a total exposure time of 32.5 minutes. Star tracking was done with a Fornax LighTack II. The raw images were converted to TIF using RawTherapee, which were then aligned using Deep Sky Stacker. The star aligned images were then stacked using a simple average followed by stretching and color correction using astro-color-stretch. Program astro-color-stretch is a Python program available free here in the astrophotography software downloads page.
